1am is the new 6pm...Seriously I don't sleep anymore :(

Hi everyone!
Hope all of you who started back to school this week had a fab first day. We don't start back until September, so I'm still enjoying staying up WAY too late and sleeping in...well kind of.... at least past 7am anyway. :) I have to make myself get back into some kind of normal sleeping routine, so that I won't be a complete zombie the first week.

This has been one of the best summers ever. Every day has been filled with fun: swimming, tubing, rafting, bike races, baseball games, days with my sweet kiddos. Last week, some of my coworkers and our kiddos made plans to go tubing. We woke up to a dreary, drizzly, cold day, but we decided to brave it anyway. Can I just say that Grace is not my middle name? I couldn't even figure out how to sit myself down in the tube to get it started. So, I decided to belly flop down on it. That's when the scratching, and bruising, and rock evilness began.  I mean right off the bat I have a 12 inch scratch down my leg, and I'm stuck on a rock not moving, while everyone else floated away. Luckily, there was a rescue, and after I was tied to another tube, I felt safer, but continued to be the slowest, most accident prone floater on the river. lol Good times... at least for my kiddo. :)

I stopped by Target yesterday. Yikes. The bad thing about starting back in September is ALL of the good stuff is gone. :/ I did get super cute supplies that weren't on my list, though: the cutest little highlighters from Yoobi, glitter markers (heaven), some super awesome pens, and chevron file folders. I have a million and one things to do to get my class ready, but for now my cutie pie school supplies are making me all kinds of glad.  Well, I'm off, to not sleep and stuff.
Sweet Dreams!

The Final Countdown!

First day back after a week off for spring break = one tired teacher!
Last week was packed full of time with my boys. Ballgames, Captain America movie, Avengers birthday party, snuggling, and puppy searching. We have puppy fever, so we go to the pet store and love on all the puppies. :) We love them all and have decided that if we become millionaires we are starting a puppy farm and rescuing all dogs everywhere.

As much fun as I had, I was ready to get back in the swing of things today with my second grade sweeties. 32 days of school left!!!! I feel like there is so much to do and so little time! In math we are working on arrays. We watched a Brainpop video over arrays today, and then we used counters to practice making arrays. I found a super cute craftivity on Pinterest that we are going to make tomorrow. Array of sunshine! It's a sunshine template cut out of construction paper. The kiddos make up their own array and repeated addition fact in the middle. So cute! We will finish up the week working on an array booklet and some array worksheets that I made.

In language, we are working on closely related verbs and adjectives and how we distinguish the appropriate times and ways to use these words. Today we got moving and talked about words like peek and stare, toss and hurl, whimper and cry. We acted out some of the words, and then I put sentences on the board and we chose the appropriate word to complete the sentence. We are going to continue the lesson by illustrating a booklet of closely related verbs and adjectives tomorrow. I will be uploading a unit the unit on TPT tomorrow, so check it out! Have a great week! :)

Share Your Candy!!

Valentine's Day is one of my favs, but since we had snow all last week and this week was our scheduled winter break, I didn't get to celebrate with my sweets. I totally plan on declaring next Friday as our makeup Valentine's Day. :) I hope everyone's week is off to a good start. Here is one of the lunchroom conversations that happened between some of my kiddos before the snowstorm swept through. So funny.

Kid 1 - Eating candy before his lunch Kid 2- You need to eat your healthy food before you eat dessert. Kid 1 - It's my food and I can eat whatever I want first. Kid 2 - Fine then. Get you a big kidney stone. Eating junk like that will give them to you. Kid 1- That's not even a real thing. You're just trying to scare me. Kid 2 - You don't even know what a kidney is. I'm just telling you. Eat that candy, but don't come crying to me with your big kidney stone tomorrow.

LOL!! They crack me up! Make sure you share you leftover Valentine's Day candy. I don't want any of ya'll to come crying to me with your big kidney stones if you don't! :)

Just Call Us Math Rockstars! : Math Journal Success

At my school, second grade does not take the CRCT. We had an end of the year math assessment. It was 60 questions long and covered all of the common core math standards. I am so proud to announce that ALL OF MY SECOND GRADE BABIES PASSED!!! We all celebrated when we got the scores back yesterday. Our deal was that if they made a perfect score, they could smash a pie in my face. That must have been inspiration. I will post pictures of the damage they do to my face. lol

We have just worked so hard this year. I have to admit that math is not my favorite subject. I adore language and writing. This past summer, I attended a conference, and one of the speakers swore that math journaling made all the difference in her class. She said that every student in her class exceeded on the standardized test in math and she credited to their math journals. That was all I needed to hear! My kiddos used binders this year, and we added math journal printables (in my TPT store). We also added notebook paper notes, colorful foldables, and anything else math related that we could punch holes in. The journals were packed full of stuff. They were colorful. They contained notes and explanations in the students own words. I credit that ownership and novelty to the success of the journals. They wanted to take them home and share them with their families. They treated those journals like treasures! Well, I'm a believer now. We are going to celebrate our awesomeness big on Friday.  It will be a well deserved party! :)

It's that time of year....

It's that time of year when I need change. I get like this every year around standardized test time. I blame the hours of review while the sun shines in my classroom window teasing me. I start feeling the need to invest hundreds of dollars in classroom renovations, feel like I must have a new car, buy more sandals than one human should own, and start hitting the gym and dieting to recreate myself. I feel restless for summer. I guess I think busyness and spending money like crazy will cure it. lol

As we are winding down the year, I am anxious for summer, but I also feel sad. My class this year is absolutely amazing and sweet and brilliant. I am going to seriously miss them next year. ;( One of the things I love about teaching is the ability to start completely over each year. A year fresh with possibilities. This year I'm thinking if I could keep this same group, I definitely would. Here is a sweet note from one of my girls. :)

I can't seem to get my hands on enough common core language materials these days. I feel like we have reviewed every piece of material on reflexive pronouns and collective nouns and irregular plurals that has ever been produced. So, I decided to create some review sheets of my own. I added two little packets on tpt. Hopefully, you will love them. :)

Hopefully the last days of this year will be sweet ones for us all. Now can somene hide my credit card? I'm thinking new shoes. :)
